MAILTO: Email QR code

Email QR code generator

One scan opens a new email in the reader’s mail app, already addressed, with your subject and message filled in. Good for feedback cards, support stickers and RSVP posters.

Email

Line breaks are kept. Long messages make a dense code; a sentence or two works best.

What goes into an email QR code

The code holds a mailto: link. Spaces, ampersands, question marks, accented letters and emoji in the subject and message are percent-encoded as RFC 6068 requires (a space becomes %20, a line break %0D%0A), so mail apps show exactly what you typed instead of cutting the message off at the first &.

Scanning never sends anything by itself. The mail app opens a draft and the reader decides whether to press send, so they can still edit the text.

    Frequently asked questions

Does the code send the email automatically?

No. It opens a pre-filled draft; nothing is sent until the reader presses send in their own mail app.

    Can I attach a file?

No. The mailto format has no way to add attachments. Put a link to the file in the message instead.

Why is my subject cut off in some apps?

That happens when special characters are left unencoded. This generator encodes them, so if it still happens, check the Encoded text panel and test with another mail app.
